Clarification on 1991 requested inquiry into allegations of aerial crashes

In 1991 a senior Senator asked Dick D'Amato, a Senate budget clerk for military and intelligence issues, to make an inquiry into the validity of rumors of crashes of unidentified aerial craft, and possible military response. Mr. Dick D'Amato, on behalf of the Senator, contacted a rancher from New Mexico and others who had been quoted on the issue. Mr. D'Amato interviewed a small group of those interested in the issue in a public, nonclassified committee room in the Capitol. Mr. D'Amato indicated to them that he was unaware of any U.S. program or involvement in such incidents, and he determined that there was not anything of particular value regarding their information. He then reported back to the Senator that he had not received any information meriting further inquiry into the allegations.
